For those of us stuck outside the world of fiction, however, it might be the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde which resonates most intensely. Often in our own lives, we play both the role of protagonist and villain, building ourselves up on the one hand and causing our own destruction on the other. Internal conflict, as it’s called by literary types, represents the best and the worst of us, and when unresolved can lead to the deterioration of our hopes, dreams, desires, and relationships into a sticky web of anger, anxiety, and eventual apathy.
